Ratner Companies started with one salon and two Stylists back in 1974. Dennis Ratner was an up-and-coming hairdresser working in his father's Louis salon in Washington, D.C. It was the beginning of a new era, and Dennis envisioned a unisex salon convenient for the whole family. Over dinner with then-wife and fellow Stylist Ann, Dennis sketched on a cocktail napkin a business plan that laid the groundwork for the first Hair Cuttery salon. Locks Of Love

August, 2003 - Hair Cuttery has been in the pink this summer raising funds for an organization near and dear to the salon chain' s heart. Through its " Pink to the Max" campaign,Hair Cuttery raised $35,500 for Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to underprivileged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss.

Hair Cuttery stylists made the donation possible by selling pink rubber band bracelets embossed with the Locks of Love logo. Designed by Hair Cutteryin one of the season' s hottest colors, the $1 bracelets were a big hit among teen-aged fashionistas also eager to do a good deed.

" Without stylists, Locks of Love would not be able to help as many children as we do," said Susan K. Stone, Locks of Love executive director. " Hair Cuttery has been a long time supporter of Locks of Love and their "Pink to the Max" program is just another example of their selfless dedication to helping others. We are so grateful for their commitment to Locks of Love, and for the support of their clients."

Locks of Love has helped thousands of children since 1997 by providing human hairpieces and boosting self-esteem for children in need. Many of the organization' s young clients suffer from alopecia areata, an autoimmune skin disease which causes hair loss, while others lose their hair through injury or other illnesses.

Since 1999, Hair Cuttery stylists nationwide have been encouraging clients who are cutting more than 10 inches of hair to donate it to Locks of Love. Hair Cuttery clients donate an average of 1,200 ponytails annually, which comes out to a little more than 100 a year.

CEO and stylist Dennis Ratner founded Hair Cuttery in 1974. The value-priced salon chain is the largest division of Ratner Companies, a family-owned company with 800 Hair Cuttery salons on the East Coast and in the Midwest. Hair Cuttery offers a full complement of cutting, coloring and texturing services with no appointment necessary.
