SALONS UNITE TO REBUILD HOMES IN HURRICANE-RAVAGED GULF COAST
Ratner Companies salons - Hair Cuttery, BUBBLES and Salon Cielo - join fundraising effort with Vidal Sassoon benefiting
Habitat for Humanity International's Gulf Coast recovery efforts
Vienna, VA, September, 2007 – With the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Ratner Companies, the largest family-owned
and operated chain of hair salons in the country, launches a new charitable campaign to raise
money for Habitat for Humanity and its efforts to build houses in the Gulf Coast.
"The Ratner family has donated $85,000 to Habitat for Humanity to build the first Ratner home
for Hairdressers Unlocking Hope," said Dennis Ratner, founder and CEO, Ratner Companies.
"Now we are mobilizing nearly 12,000 employees to reach out to our clients and ask them to
join us in building more homes." Ratner Associates also contribute to the effort through donations,
a surplus product sale, and silent auction.
All Ratner Companies salons are fundraising for the effort, including: Hair Cuttery, a value-priced
family hair salon with nearly 850 locations spanning the East Coast from New England to Florida and
the Chicago region; BUBBLES, a growing chain of salons on the cutting edge of fashion, with over 30
locations in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania; and Salon Cielo, an upscale retreat offering
sophisticated services in a serene and tranquil environment, with 12 locations in select cities,
including Boca Raton and Washington, DC.
"We have several Stylists who were living in New Orleans when Katrina hit and relocated to the
Atlanta region," said Ratner. "We welcomed them into our family, and are thrilled to join this
campaign as a way of giving hope and homes to those affected by this tragedy." Hairdressers
Unlocking Hope continues a legacy of charitable giving by Ratner Companies, to both national
and local causes, including the The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the American Red
Cross, Locks of Love, March of Dimes, and the Make a Wish Foundation.
Ratner Companies joins others in the beauty industry to support Hairdressers Unlocking Hope, a
campaign spearheaded by industry icon Vidal Sassoon and BehindTheChair.com founder Mary Rector-Gable,
to help raise awareness of the continued devastation felt in the wake of the 2005 hurricane season,
and to make a lasting difference in the region by building 20 new houses in the hard-hit parish of
St. Tammany, LA, near New Orleans.
"In the case of New Orleans and other affected areas, there is so much work to be done to restore
housing and hope," said Vidal Sassoon. "We need to come together to show the world how caring,
giving and strong our community of hairdressers can be."
