ColorWorks
Master Colorist Joins The Redken
Exchange
December,
2002 – ColorWorks,
the East Coast’s hottest
new haircolor salon chain, is
proud to announce that Tracy
Guthrie,
Director of Haircolor Education
for the chain’s Arlington,
VA location, has joined The
Redken Exchange as a facilitator.
In this role, Guthrie will lead
shows at the Exchange’s
state-of-the-art education center
on New York City’s posh
5th Avenue and travel the country
from coast to coast performing
and leading classes.
“This
is such a huge honor,”
said Tracy, who is one of only
25 Redken Exchange facilitators.
“Working at the Exchange
is so exciting, because you’re
there, looking out on 5th Avenue
– the fashion mecca of
the world. It’s totally
different from getting educated
in salon, because you tend to
try things you wouldn’t
at home.”
Guthrie is
not a novice to the world of
education and the fast-paced
life of beauty shows. The Kansas
City native has been a Redken
Performing Artist for eight
years and has traveled throughout
the United States educating
salon professionals, distributors
and other industry representatives
on the latest trends and techniques.
She is an American Board Certified
Hair Colorist, and was recently
named Presenter of the Year
by State Beauty Supply, a large
national distributor.
“Education
isn’t for everyone, but
the secret is to make your students
feel comfortable. You have to
be positive, you have to be
fun and you have to inspire
them to let the creativity flow.
You have to be a cheerleader.”
Perhaps that’s
what makes Guthrie so good at
what she does. Though it was
clear from a young age that
she had a talent for doing hair,
she devoted much of her free
time to performing as a dancer
and a cheerleader. In fact,
before she became a professional
stylist, she spent a summer
traveling around the country
working as a cheerleading instructor.
“Which is exactly what
I do now.”
Fortunately
for Redken and for ColorWorks,
Guthrie decided to follow in
her grandparents’ footsteps
and go to beauty school. After
working more than 10 years for
a Kansas City salon, Guthrie
relocated to Northern Virginia
and began working for ColorWorks
where she has been since the
salon opened in September.
“We
are so excited to have Tracy
on board,” said Allyson
Hurley, business unit
leader for ColorWorks. “She
motivates, she dazzles and she
inspires everyone in the salon
to take color to new heights.
It’s a privilege having
her around.”
ColorWorks
is the newest addition to the
Ratner
Companies
family, which wasfounded by
CEO and stylist Dennis
Ratner.
ColorWorks provides coloring
and finishing services that
start at $40. In addition to
the ColorWorks salons, Ratner
Companies manages 800 Hair Cuttery
salons in the United States
and the United Kingdom.
