Ratner Companies started with one salon and two Stylists back in 1974. Dennis Ratner was an up-and-coming hairdresser working in his father's Louis salon in Washington, D.C. It was the beginning of a new era, and Dennis envisioned a unisex salon convenient for the whole family. Over dinner with then-wife and fellow Stylist Ann, Dennis sketched on a cocktail napkin a business plan that laid the groundwork for the first Hair Cuttery salon. Cutting Edge and Classic, ColorWorks’ Decent Exposure Collection
Offers Innovative Looks That Are as Easy to Create and Wear

Falls Church, VA—August 20, 2004—The stylists at ColorWorks, the Mid-Atlantic’s exclusive hair color specialty salon, have found a way to let women have it all—at least when it comes to their hair. The convertible styles of the Decent Exposure collection can be worn one way in the club room and another at a night club.

“All the looks in the Decent Exposure collection are versatile,” explains Tracy Guthrie, national artistic leader for ColorWorks and a 2004 North American Hairstyling Awards finalist. “Women don’t have to choose one look over another. They can be sexy and strong, feminine and powerful. We’ve found ways to achieve the styles women want without sacrificing anything.

“The fun of this collection,” Guthrie adds, “is that whatever her mood or the moment, a woman can go from demure to dynamite, and back again, simply by combing her hair differently.”

Drop Top
One of the boldest looks in the Decent Exposure collection is also one of the easiest. Drop Top is a short layered style with disconnected bangs and a swath of color that changes from copper to gold, simply by changing the direction of the part.

“Though it looks sophisticated, the Drop Top color procedure is as simple as regular color, making it accessible to everyone,” Guthrie says. “It’s one style that’s as much fun to create as it is to wear.”

Ruffled Feathers
This sexy, dimensional hair color goes beyond highlights, reversing the color application to bring
a little surprise. Placing a much deeper hue in the interior allows the color to peek through the next layer without a dramatic start or stop.

“Women can raise or lower the volume on this style, and they have the choice of a high contrast between colors for an edgier look, or it can be toned down with softer colors,” notes Guthrie. “Ruffled Feathers brings regular color something extra without a dramatic change.”

Coiled Again
This classic long, layered look incorporates a rich, warm brown with a spicy, medium copper red and a light, golden blonde. The style features an interior that shows when the hair is parted a certain way. Worn straight or curly, the soft, long texture inside exposes the various layers of color.

“Why choose between blonde, brunette or redhead when you can have all three?” Guthrie says. “By using high- or low-contrast colors, Coiled Again can be vibrant or subtle, but it’s never dull.”

Devil in Disguise
The peek-a-boo vibrant red within the soft, angelic halo of curls on the surface give this naughty-but-nice style its name. The color is specifically applied with the vibrant red on the interior, allowing it to peek through the dark brown, heavily textured long and short curls around the head. Anchoring the look is a strong fringe.

“At first glance, the strong fringe and sweet curls around the head offer an image of innocence, “ Guthrie says, “but those strong splashes of red within the dark brown hair and the heavily textured cut dispel any notion that this hairstyle is for the faint of heart.”
