Ratner Companies started with one salon and two Stylists back in 1974. Dennis Ratner was an up-and-coming hairdresser working in his father's Louis salon in Washington, D.C. It was the beginning of a new era, and Dennis envisioned a unisex salon convenient for the whole family. Over dinner with then-wife and fellow Stylist Ann, Dennis sketched on a cocktail napkin a business plan that laid the groundwork for the first Hair Cuttery salon. COLORWORKS ANNOUNCES ABCH CERTIFICATION FOR FOURTEEN COLORISTS

Vienna, VA, January 18, 2005 - ColorWorks today announced that fourteen colorists earned certification from the American Board of Certified Haircolorists. As demand for color services rise along with client expectations for perfect color, ColorWorks professionals continue to raise the bar on performing this hot-ticket service.
Colorists who received certification in November are:

ColorWorks, Fairfax Corner (Fairfax, VA)

Maida Hehmci
Kristen Shehadi

ColorWorks, Falls Grove Village (Rockville, MD)

Becky Roberson
Angie Whitner

ColorWorks, Pentagon Row (Arlington, VA)

Heather Finkel
Chantal Desir

ColorWorks, Short Pump (Richmond, VA)

Toni Williams
Angela Gibson
Cristal Agonia
Carmen Thorpe
Angie Johnson

ColorWorks, Towson Town Center (Towson, MD)

Allyson Hurley
ColorWorks, Annapolis Harbour
(Annapolis, MD)
Ava VanSickler
Laura Ditta

In order to become certified, colorists must complete a rigorous set of written exams, performance evaluations and interactive demonstrations with real-life client scenarios. Most test-takers have eight years or more experience coloring hair, and only 55 percent of those who take the exam pass it the first time.

“We are so proud to have such expertise concentrated in one place,” said Allyson Hurley, business unit leader for ColorWorks. “For color experts like ourselves, it’s only natural to continually set higher standards and reach for new goals. The way we see it, it’s absolutely essential.”

“I think the other colorists can feel the added confidence we have when we’re with our clients,” said Tracy Guthrie, ColorWorks Artistic Leader and a mentor to those training for the board exams. “They sense the creativity and excitement and so do our clients. It really is an inspiration.”

ColorWorks, a haircolor specialty salon, has six locations in Maryland and Virginia. ColorWorks provides expert hair color services from some of the industry’s most talented hair color professionals. Each location’s educational programs are headed by ColorWorks colorists who’ve been certified by the American Board of Certified Haircolorists. ColorWorks is a division of Ratner Companies, based in Vienna, VA.
