Ratner Companies started with one salon and two Stylists back in 1974. Dennis Ratner was an up-and-coming hairdresser working in his father's Louis salon in Washington, D.C. It was the beginning of a new era, and Dennis envisioned a unisex salon convenient for the whole family. Over dinner with then-wife and fellow Stylist Ann, Dennis sketched on a cocktail napkin a business plan that laid the groundwork for the first Hair Cuttery salon. Gulf Oil Spill Donation Update                                                                  
June 10th, 2010

Thanks to all our caring stylists and clients for showing overwhelming support for our hair collection program and being committed to making a difference in their communities. Because of you, Ratner Companies, with the help of Fedex, has been able to ship six thousand pounds of hair to the Gulf Coast. Matter of Trust, the nonprofit organization that makes hair booms and mats that soak up oil, has warehouses full of hair booms ready to be deployed if needed.

We have learned that, at this time, BP does not intend to use the hair booms to help clean up oil in the Gulf. However, we have been assured by Matter of Trust that they will be used to clean up less disastrous oil spills that occur with great frequency in the US.

On behalf of the Ratner Family and all Ratner Companies' associates, thank you for supporting this effort to protect and preserve our environment in the face of this eco-catastrophe.
